Livestock Trailers
Sooner or later you will need to transport your animals. Since Alpacas and goats are much smaller animals than most trailers are built for you can use smaller trailers. An you do not need all the extra things added for horses. But Alpacas have some special needs that your trailer needs to have, such as good insulation, good airflow, side padding, and a loading ramp. Here are some links to some trailer manufacturers that make special Alpaca trailers.
We found a local dealer who had a general livestock trailer that we could modify for use with fiber animals. It was also much cheaper than the special trailers below. In climates that do not get too cold this kind of trailer will work quite well. The trailer walls need to be at least 4' high before there is any opening. The floor will need some insulation because the animals tend to cush while traveling. We found that standard rubber mats from Tractor Supply worked quite well for that purpose. We also mounted some inexpensive thermometer/humidity gages (about $3 from WalMart) on the walls so we could monitor the temperature in their area. Some fans will be needed when it gets hot.
For emergency visits to the vet some breeders will use a van. We have seen others with a special shell for a pickup that will hold a few animals. A nice shell is available from Soft-Topper. See the link below.
